The Investigative Toxicology/Pathology Core (ITPC) Laboratory is equipped with a state-of-the-art histology facility that provides a wide range of histological support services for paraffin and frozen sections. The histopathology services provided by the ITPC include basic necropsy, fixation, embedding, sectioning and staining (hematoxylin and eosin) of tissue specimens. The ITPC Laboratory equipment includes Leica Autostainer XL, Leica tissue processor TP 1020 and Leica EG 1150C embedding instrument, and Leica cryostat.
Tissues are processed and embedded using low melting point paraffin in order to preserve the antigenicity for heat sensitive antigens. Additional unstained slides can be provided upon request. The ITPC offers immunohistochemical and special staining for paraffin and frozen sections. Assistance will be given to investigators with respect to the proper collection and fixation of the tissue based on each study. |
